Grand Canyon University’s women’s soccer program is entering its second year as a member of the Mountain West Conference with a buzz of optimism. The Lopes received a fourth‑place projection in the preseason coaches poll, a jump from sixth the previous season, and even earned a single first‑place vote.
At the heart of the team’s expectations is senior goalkeeper Emma Knack, who was not only named to the preseason Mountain West Women’s Soccer Watch List but also ranked sixth nationally in saves last year. Her 6.61 saves per match and 83.2% save percentage underline a reliability that coach Chris Cissell describes as leadership backed by elite shot‑stopping.
Junior forward Ellie Johannes adds a dynamic attacking edge. She led the squad with 27 shots on goal and averaged 3.47 shots per game, placing her third in the conference, and her versatility across the front line gives the Lopes multiple scoring options.
Another key piece is junior Amanda Adams, a speedy winger whose first two college seasons at Houston were complemented by stints on the U.S. Olympic Development Program’s 2023 South Region team and appearances for the El Salvador national side in World Cup qualifiers. Her knack for creating chances and finishing makes her a constant threat.

Coach Cissell has praised the trio, noting that Knack’s composure, Johannes’s attacking instincts, and Adams’s pace together form a balanced and dangerous unit. “They each bring a different dimension that will allow us to compete at a higher level,” he said.
