Chibi Anwunah, a 6‑foot‑5, 300‑pound defensive lineman from Canton, Michigan, has officially medically retired ahead of the 2026 season, ending a college career that was defined more by contribution off the field than by statistics on it.
Anwunah first drew attention at Plymouth Christian Academy, where he earned First‑Team All‑West and All‑MIAC honors in 2021, helping the program capture its inaugural league title and a second eight‑win season in school history.
At Michigan, he spent his first two years on the scout team, honing his craft while the Wolverines prepared for upcoming opponents. In 2023 he was recognized as Scout Team Special Teams Player of the Week for his work ahead of the UNLV game, a testament to the behind‑the‑scenes role he embraced.
His on‑field moments were limited but memorable: a tackle in 2024 against Illinois and a recovered squibbed kickoff in a 2025 matchup with Michigan State. Across 15 career appearances he recorded just two tackles, yet earned two letters and was part of a Big Ten championship squad.
