Worcester, Massachusetts, is set to become the epicenter of East Coast American Legion baseball this August as the city prepares to host two regional tournaments that will decide which squads advance to the sport’s premier championship.
Regional Competition Overview
The Northeast Regional, staged at Fitton Field, brings together champions from Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont, while the Mid‑Atlantic Regional, held at Tivnan Field, showcases champions from Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
Both tournaments run from August 6 through August 9 using double‑elimination brackets, ensuring that each team must lose twice before being eliminated.
Field Upgrades Enhance Local Venues
The Worcester Department of Public Works & Parks has invested in Tivnan Field, installing fresh sod, restoring the infield and refurbishing the pitcher’s mound and home‑plate area to meet tournament standards.
Similar preparatory work at Fitton Field has been completed, providing a reliable surface for the Northeast Regional’s opening games.
The winners of each regional will travel to Shelby, North Carolina, where the American Legion World Series will take place from August 13 to August 18, featuring the nation’s top amateur baseball clubs.
