Terry Josting, a 30‑year veteran of high school basketball, is back on the sidelines at Haughton High School, taking the helm of the boys program for a second stint after a brief retirement. His return comes after a courageous battle with prostate cancer diagnosed in early 2021, during which he continued coaching through treatment and missed only two weeks of the 2021‑22 season.
A career forged in resilience
Josting’s journey through Louisiana basketball reads like a masterclass in dedication. He began at Bossier High School from 1991 to 1997, serving as both head girls coach and assistant on the boys staff. A 14‑year tenure at Parkway High School followed, where he helped guide the 1999‑2000 team to a 32‑win season and a Class 4A quarterfinal appearance. After Parkway, he contributed as an assistant at Lakeside and Southwood before ascending to head coach at Southwood for four seasons.
The latest chapter unfolded when Steve McDowell, a ten‑time state champion, stepped down at Southwood, clearing the path for Josting to take over the program. The move was welcomed by players and administrators alike, who praised Josting’s deep roots in the community and his proven ability to develop talent.
Beyond the locker room, Josting remains a dedicated educator at Haughton, balancing his teaching responsibilities with his coaching duties. His presence on campus continues to inspire both students and athletes, reinforcing a culture of perseverance and excellence that has defined his career.
