A Double Celebration for Local Teams
Harbor Springs High School’s girls soccer squad captured their second straight Northern Shores Conference championship on Tuesday, dismantling Kingsley 8‑0 in a dominant performance that highlighted the senior class’s final home game.
The seniors, including Aaron Riley, Maeve Riley, Meme Animikwam, Lizzie Bassett, Sophie Barnadyn, Sydney Burch, Fran Warren, Lilly Barnadyn, Bella Baker, Stefi Reskevics and Amelie Janssens, each found the net, underscoring a collective effort that left the opposition scoreless.
Petoskey’s Path to the District Stage
Petoskey High School’s girls team also moved forward in the postseason picture, edging Traverse City Central 1‑0 thanks to a decisive strike by senior Claire O’Donnell and a standout defensive display from goalkeeper Isla Scheib, who made several key saves.
Both squads now turn their attention to district play, with Harbor Springs scheduled to meet either Suttons Bay or Charlevoix on May 26, while Petoskey is set to host Gaylord on Thursday, a match that could decide the Big North title.
After a narrow 2‑1 loss to Leland in last year’s district final, the Harbor Springs seniors are eager to translate their conference momentum into a deeper playoff run, hoping to finish their high school careers on a high note.
