NASCAR has confirmed that Carson Brown, the 18‑year‑old development driver who has already tasted victory in the ARCA Menards Series and the CARS Late Model Stock Car Tour, will take over the iconic No. 88 Chevrolet for the 2026 season. Brown, who has been part of Richard Childress Racing’s driver development program since November 2025, is set to make his Cup Series debut at Iowa Speedway, stepping into a car that has been a fixture of Hendrick Motorsports’ lineup.
Rajah Caruth, currently 20 points below the playoff cutoff with only two races remaining, will not be left without a seat. He has struck a separate agreement to drive for Jordan Anderson Racing in the final ten events, a move that keeps him playoff‑eligible while allowing him to finish the season in the primary No. 88 entry for the last few races.
Playoff Pressure and Historic Performances
The stakes are heightened by the unusual distribution of the remaining races. While four Hendrick Motorsports drivers are slated to compete in the final ten events, only three of them will actually take the wheel in any given race.
