A New Era for the Tigers
Clemson’s football program kicked off its 2026 campaign on August 6, marking the first day of fall practice under head coach Dabo Swinney. The Tigers are looking to rebound from a 7‑6 record a year ago and to shake off the disappointment of a 22‑10 loss to Penn State in the Pinstripe Bowl.
The opening test will come on September 5, when the team travels to Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge to face LSU at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time. The game will serve as the first major benchmark for a roster that has been reshaped through the transfer portal and a series of coaching moves.
Among the most visible changes on the staff are the arrivals of Chad Morris as offensive coordinator and Tom Allen as defensive coordinator. Both coordinators bring recent experience from Power Five programs and are expected to inject fresh ideas into Swinney’s system.
The quarterback battle is already generating buzz. Senior Christopher Vizzina is listed as the front‑runner, but freshman Tait Reynolds is expected to push him for the starting spot during camp.
Key Additions and Departures
The transfer market has added several pieces to the mix. Running back Chris Johnson Jr. from SMU and wide receiver Jaylen Brown‑Wallace from Wingate are among the newcomers expected to contribute immediately. The roster also saw a handful of departures, including linebacker Luke Ferrelli and wide receiver Parker Fulghum, who entered the portal earlier this offseason.
Recruiting‑wise, Clemson signed 22 high school prospects and one junior college player for the 2026 class, a group that ranks 20th nationally and fourth within the ACC. The haul reflects a continued effort to maintain competitiveness in a crowded conference.
The schedule beyond the LSU opener includes matchups with Georgia Southern, North Carolina, Cal, Miami and several other opponents, setting up a demanding slate that will test the Tigers’ depth and resilience.
