Florida Gulf Coast University catcher Jon Embury has been selected as one of the 16 semifinalists for the 2026 Buster Posey Award, an honor that recognizes the nation's most outstanding collegiate catcher. The announcement came from the Wichita Sports Commission, which oversees the award's selection process.
Season Statistics
Embury sits ninth nationally in hits per game and leads the Atlantic Sun Conference with a .376 batting average, the highest mark in the league and 47th in the country. He has compiled 79 hits, 17 home runs and 143 total bases, while driving in 60 runs and maintaining a slugging percentage of .681 and an OPS of 1.121.
Defensively, he ranks second in the nation with 16 runners caught stealing, a figure that also tops the ASUN by seven. His 1.22 RBIs per game place him 36th nationally and also leads the conference, and his 1.61 hits per game rank 36th in the country.
Conference Representation
He is one of only two catchers from Florida to make the semifinalist list, the sole representative from the Atlantic Sun Conference, and just the third player from a mid‑major program to be considered. Overall, 111 catchers from 28 conferences were nominated for the award.
The final vote will involve Division I baseball coaches, sports information directors, national media members, professional scouts and the Buster Posey Award selection committee. Five finalists are slated to be announced on Monday, June 1, at 10 a.m. ET, after which the award recipient will be determined.
