The University of Vermont (UVM) has named Adam Krug its new Associate Head Coach for the Catamounts men's hockey team, a move that underscores the program's ambition to compete at the highest level of collegiate hockey.
Krug arrives after a decade of leadership at Adrian College, where he guided the Bulldogs to an NCAA Division III national championship in 2022 and amassed a stellar 229‑52‑14 record, the best winning percentage in school history.
A Proven Record of Excellence
During his tenure at Adrian, Krug captured five NCHA tournament titles and earned six Coach of the Year honors, while mentoring standout players such as Matthew Savoie and Viljami Marjala, both of whom later earned AHL All‑Star recognition.
His coaching journey also includes two seasons as an assistant with the Bakersfield Condors in the American Hockey League, where he contributed to the club's defensive schemes and player development programs.
Prior to his AHL experience, Krug worked within the Edmonton Oilers organization, collaborating with their top affiliate and helping shape the development path of forward James Hamblin, who posted a career‑high 27 goals in the 2025‑26 season.
Head Coach Steve Wiedler, who has known Krug for over a decade, highlighted the hire as a perfect fit for UVM's culture, stating that Krug's emphasis on player growth aligns with the program's long‑standing values.
Krug's appointment is expected to deepen the Catamounts' recruiting reach, leveraging his extensive network that spans the United States Hockey League, the NCAA, and professional minor leagues.
