Northern Illinois University’s men’s soccer program has once again been celebrated for its commitment to academic achievement, capturing the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2025‑26 academic year.
The Huskies compiled a collective grade point average of 3.39, comfortably exceeding the minimum 3.0 requirement set by the coaches’ association and marking the ninth time the team has earned this distinction in the past ten seasons.
Individual scholarly honors followed, as four players were named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar‑Athlete Team and an additional four received Academic All‑District accolades from the College Sports Communicators, highlighting the program’s depth of scholarship.
A tradition of academic distinction
The United Soccer Coaches College Team Academic Award, established in 1996, recognizes teams that excel both on the field and in the classroom. For NIU, this honor reflects a sustained culture where competitive ambition and scholarly rigor are pursued simultaneously.
Looking ahead, the Huskies will test their readiness in a series of exhibition matches before the regular season officially begins. On August 9 they host William Penn at 5 p.m., and a week later they travel to face Saint Louis.
The first official competition arrives on August 20, when NIU opens its schedule at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, a venue that will also serve as the backdrop for the team’s inaugural match of the new campaign.
