A gift for local youngsters
FIFA has shipped 200 youth‑size soccer balls to Lewiston, Maine, as part of a World Cup‑related outreach initiative that links the global tournament’s legacy to local neighborhoods.
The balls will be handed out on August 17 during a free youth soccer clinic organized by the Lewiston Recreation Department in partnership with players from the Hearts of Pine.
Mayor Carl Sheline worked with the recreation department to coordinate the distribution, making sure the event would be open to all children at no cost.
Registration for the clinic is available through the city’s recreation portal, where families can sign up for the complimentary session.
The donation follows the recent conclusion of the FIFA World Cup final and was arranged by Boston’s welcoming committee, underscoring a broader effort to use the sport’s visibility for community benefit.
