Columbia Baseball has unveiled a 2027 roster that welcomes eleven new student‑athletes, a group that spans ten different states and brings a blend of athletic prowess and academic excellence.
The incoming class is anchored by a mix of pitchers and position players, each expected to make an immediate impact. Their backgrounds range from state championships in the Midwest to dominant performances on the East Coast, reflecting a geographic diversity that mirrors the program’s growing reach.
Spotlight on Standout newcomers
Among the newcomers, left‑handed infielder Bercaw from Langhorne, Pa., joins left‑handed pitcher Russ Berger of Charlotte, N.C., and right‑handed pitcher Connor Couch from Bloomington, Ind., each bringing state‑championship pedigrees and All‑State honors.
The class also features infielder Ty Daniels, who represented Australia at the 2024 Youth Championship and earned CIF Scholar‑Athlete honors; outfielder Jack Freehill of Palo Alto, a four‑year varsity starter who helped the Menlo School capture back‑to‑back Central Coast Section titles; right‑handed pitcher Selden Kolkebeck of Harrington Park, N.J., the 2026 New Jersey Pitcher of the Year; infielder Chris McLaughlin of Albany, N.Y., a two‑time MVP of the 2026 Section II All‑Star Game; right‑handed pitcher Ronan O’Brien of Phoenix, a two‑time Arizona Republic Player of the Week; outfielder Wyatt Raymond of Charlottesville, Va., a First Team All‑Central Virginia honoree; right‑handed pitcher Xavien Suero of Hyannis, Mass., part of a 2024 MIAA Division I state‑championship team; and right‑handed pitcher Sam Wildfong of Traverse City, Mich., a four‑time First Team All‑State selection.
Head Coach Brett Boretti emphasized that the group is both athletic and versatile, noting that several newcomers have the potential to become frontline pitchers. He expressed confidence that the blend of experience and raw talent will deepen the program’s competitiveness and maintain Columbia’s upward trajectory.
With a roster that combines state‑level champions, academic scholars and international representatives, Columbia Baseball looks to translate this depth into on‑field success as the 2027 season approaches.
