A Black Friday Basketball Clash That Never Happened
Kentucky fans had circled Black Friday as a marquee date, anticipating a showdown with West Virginia. The matchup, however, was called off, leaving the Wildcats with a gap in their schedule.
In its place, West Virginia will step onto the court in the Dick Vitale Invitational on November 27, facing the North Carolina Tar Heels. It will mark the first meeting between the Mountaineers and the Tar Heels in over six decades.
A Schedule Under Scrutiny
Coach Mark Pope has been vocal about the need for a fuller slate, noting that Kentucky currently holds only 31 regular‑season games, one shy of the maximum allowed. Expanding the schedule remains a priority as the program seeks to provide more competitive opportunities.
While a replacement opponent is still being explored, sources suggest the next addition may not come from a power conference, but the coaching staff remains optimistic about securing a suitable matchup before the season progresses.
For now, the Wildcats and their supporters wait for official announcements, hoping that the canceled Black Friday game will be rescheduled or replaced with an equally compelling contest.
