A Step Back in Time
On Saturday, the village of Norwood will host a living history baseball event that transports visitors to the 1860s. Teams will take the field wearing authentic uniforms, using period‑appropriate rules and equipment, while the community gathers to celebrate a milestone in American history.
The festivities begin with a parade at 10 a.m., marching from the historic Norwood Schoolhouse to the town’s baseball field on Center Street. Organizers have emphasized that only cash donations will be accepted, reflecting the Civil War‑era theme and supporting the preservation of local landmarks.
Admission to both the parade and the exhibition game is free, but attendees are encouraged to contribute cash to the cause. Visitors are also invited to dress in period‑specific clothing and bring lawn chairs to enjoy the afternoon match between the Norwood Sawdusters and the Mackinaw City Boys.
The event underscores the village’s commitment to preserving its heritage while fostering community spirit. Located in Charlevoix County, south of the city of Charlevoix, Norwood will showcase a unique blend of sport, history and local pride for residents and guests alike.
