A Season of Dual Success
The United Soccer Coaches recently announced that Macalester College's men's soccer squad has been awarded the prestigious Team Academic Award for the 2025‑26 academic year, recognizing a collective grade point average of 3.72. That figure places the Scots among the nation's elite, tying them for eighth place in Division III and ninth overall in the latest academic rankings.
The achievement is not an isolated incident. Over the past several seasons the program has consistently posted the highest team GPA in Division III, a streak that includes the 2021‑22 and 2024‑25 academic years. In 2019‑20 the Scots topped every Division III program, and a year later they finished second nationally with a 3.79 GPA, trailing only the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
A Legacy of Excellence
Coach Gregg Olson, who has guided the team for several years, praised the student‑athletes for their dedication both on the field and in the classroom. Six recent graduates and current players earned spots on the CSC Academic All‑District Team, and 17 members of the squad were honored with Academic All‑MIAC accolades last fall, underscoring a culture that values scholarly achievement as much as athletic performance.
The recognition reflects a broader trend at Macalester, where rigorous academics and competitive athletics coexist.
