A Commitment that Signals Future Growth
The Iowa Hawkeyes have secured a high-profile addition to their women's basketball program with the verbal commitment of Jada Davis, a 2029 four-star guard who has been one of the most talked-about prospects in her class.
Davis, who stands 6 feet tall, has distinguished herself at Wichita East High School and on the MOKAN Nike EYBL circuit, where she averaged 14.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.9 steals and 3.5 assists as a freshman. She shot 43 percent from the field and 31 percent from three-point range, numbers that have drawn praise from analysts.
Her performance has earned her the No. 17 spot in ESPN's 2029 SportsCenter NEXT – Terrific 25 rankings and the third overall position in Kansas according to Prep Girls Hoops' state rankings, underscoring the national buzz surrounding her.
The recruitment has attracted attention from a suite of power‑conference programs, with offers from Alabama, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Miami, Mississippi State, Kansas, Colorado, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Texas A&M, Missouri, SMU, UNLV, Michigan and Northwestern already on her résumé.
Head coach Jan Jensen, who has been guiding the Hawkeyes through a period of transition, described Davis as a player who can stretch defenses and create opportunities in transition. 'She brings a level of versatility that fits our system,' Jensen said in a recent interview.
Beyond the statistics, Davis's pledge is seen as a statement about the growing appeal of Iowa's women's program. The commitment not only bolsters the roster for the upcoming season but also positions the team to compete more aggressively in the Big Ten and on the national stage.
