A Test of Depth Before the Season
The University of Connecticut men’s basketball program opened its preseason with a tightly contested scrimmage on Tuesday, drawing a crowd of alumni, donors and local fans eager to see the new‑look Huskies in action.
Head coach Dan Hurley praised the intensity, saying the practice felt “like a Big East battle” and highlighted the physicality that will define the team’s identity.
The contest stretched to overtime, where sophomore guard Braylon Mullins delivered a clutch three‑pointer that sent the bench into celebration and underscored his role as a primary scorer.
Injury Impact and Roster Changes
Alongside Mullins, returning veterans Silas Demary Jr. and Jayden Ross are expected to shoulder larger workloads, while a wave of newcomers and transfers will see increased minutes following Solo Ball’s season‑ending wrist injury.
Despite the setback, the coaching staff remains optimistic, noting that the depth added by the transfers could prove pivotal as the Huskies prepare for their exhibition showdown with Syracuse at the Mohegan Sun Arena on October 13.
The scrimmage served not only as a preview of the talent on display but also as a gauge of the team’s chemistry as they fine‑tune strategies ahead of the regular season.
