Frank Smith, a 30‑year veteran of the soccer sidelines, has just been named head coach of the Starkville Academy boys soccer program, taking the reins from William Wells, who steered the team through a challenging 1‑7 season in 2024.
Smith’s reputation rests on an aggressive, fast‑paced philosophy that blends pressing tactics with early‑game possession control, a style he honed while reviving programs at Presbyterian Christian, Copiah‑Lincoln Community College and Central Christian School.
The new coach is also a hometown product, having grown up in Starkville before his family settled in Clinton, Mississippi. His return coincides with his children’s enrollment at Mississippi State University, deepening his personal stake in the community.
