A milestone on the gridiron
Oregon Ducks have secured a historic non‑conference fixture, announcing that they will host Sacramento State Hornets at Autzen Stadium on September 9, 2028. The game will be the first time the two programs meet on the football field, adding a new chapter to both teams’ histories.
The matchup completes Oregon’s 2028 non‑conference schedule, which already includes a slate of Power Five opponents. In addition to the home game against Sacramento State, the Ducks will welcome Illinois, Michigan State, Rutgers, USC and Washington, while traveling to Indiana, Minnesota, Penn State and Wisconsin for conference battles.
For Sacramento State, the agreement provides a marquee opening against a Pac‑12 powerhouse and fills one of three remaining slots in their 2028 schedule. The Hornets, who have never faced Oregon before, will also meet eight Mid‑American Conference rivals throughout the season.
The announcement was welcomed by players and staff alike. Senior linebacker Dante Moore, who has been a vocal leader on defense, highlighted the significance of testing the team against a new opponent and expressed excitement about the upcoming challenge.
The game will be played in front of a crowd in Eugene, Oregon, while Sacramento State’s home city of Sacramento, California, will also feel the ripple effects of the scheduling news. Both campuses will look to leverage the matchup for recruiting and community engagement as the 2028 season approaches.
