Four franchises – the Los Angeles Queens, New York Heights, Boston Hunters and San Francisco Firebells – took the field in a six‑week schedule that leveraged the city’s deep sports culture and sizable market, marking the fifth professional women’s baseball league in U.S. history.

The opening ceremony paid tribute to Maybelle Blair, a veteran of the All‑American Girls Professional Baseball League, who threw out the first pitch, linking the new league to its storied predecessor and underscoring the continuity of women’s baseball.
Stars such as Mo'ne Davis and Kelsie Whitmore stepped onto the diamond for the first time in a sustained professional setting, while veterans like Sabrina Robinson and others balanced their baseball ambitions with university studies, jobs and family responsibilities.
Commissioner Justine Siegal, who also founded the nonprofit Baseball For All, highlighted the league’s mission to provide lasting professional pathways for women, a cause supported by community initiatives and youth outreach programs.
