Micah Rienstra‑Kiracofe named Co‑Defensive Player of the Year as Golden Flashes dominate conference recognitions

The Mid-American Conference revealed its 2026 baseball postseason awards, and the Kent State Golden Flashes dominated the recognition, collecting a conference‑best ten honors.

Defensive standout and offensive firepower

Micah Rienstra‑Kiracofe was selected as the Co‑Defensive Player of the Year after a season in which he hit .309, drove in 40 runs and stole 14 bases while committing just one error in 115 defensive chances. His .430 on‑base percentage and 10 doubles highlighted a versatile skill set that also earned him a spot on the All‑MAC Defensive Team as an outfielder.

Brody Williams received First Team All‑MAC honors after batting .320 with 63 hits, nine home runs and 50 RBIs. He posted a .417 on‑base percentage and a .533 slugging percentage, and his arm was on display as he threw out 19 of 47 would‑be baserunners.

Other Golden Flashes also earned second‑team accolades. Ripken Reese combined a .290 average with 10 home runs and 42 RBIs, while Luke Matthews contributed 13 doubles and 33 RBIs from the shortstop position, turning 26 double plays and posting 136 assists. Sawyer Solitaria paced the offense with 64 hits, 16 home runs and 124 total bases, hitting .582 slugging.

The pitching staff was equally impressive. Ciaran Caughey anchored the rotation at 7‑2 with a 3.60 ERA over 70 innings, while Evan Holewinski posted a 2.14 ERA in 46.1 innings, striking out 50 batters. Peyton Williams added six saves with a 2.37 ERA, forming a bullpen duo that limited opponents to a .191 average.

Kent State’s ten postseason honorees underscore the program’s resurgence, reflecting a season in which offensive production, defensive reliability and pitching depth converged to place the Golden Flashes among the conference’s elite.
