The event was staged in partnership with the Kyle Palmieri Foundation and the New York Islanders, highlighting the foundation’s broader mission to support veterans and their families through direct services and outreach.
Recovery and Roster Changes
Palmieri, who is currently recovering from a torn ACL sustained in the Islanders’ November 28 game against the Flyers, used the clinic to discuss his rehabilitation progress and the upcoming training camp that will shape the team’s roster.
The clinic also underscored the growth of ball hockey on Long Island, a variant that eliminates the need for ice time and makes the game more accessible to younger participants.
A Fresh Coaching Era
Longtime captain Anders Lee’s recent move to the Utah Mammoth left a noticeable void for the Islanders, but new head coach Peter DeBoer, who previously guided the New Jersey Devils and San Jose Sharks to the Stanley Cup Final, brings a fresh tactical outlook.
DeBoer and Palmieri share a professional history from their days with the New Jersey Devils, though they never played together, and both are now focused on building a competitive future for the franchise.
