Sergi Roberto, a 34‑year‑old Spanish midfielder who spent 18 seasons at FC Barcelona, has agreed to a two‑year contract with the LA Galaxy that keeps him under contract through the 2028 season, with an option for 2029.
Reuniting with Familiar Faces
The move brings the veteran back to the MLS after a two‑year spell in Italy’s Serie A with Como, where he helped the club secure a Champions League spot, and he will now link up with German star Marco Reus and former Barcelona teammate Riqui Puig in the Galaxy’s midfield.
LA Galaxy, currently 12th in the Western Conference, have won just 12 of 53 matches since capturing their sixth MLS Cup in 2024, and the club hopes Roberto’s experience and leadership will spark a late‑season surge.
Roberto’s arrival follows a recent loan deal for Mexican winger Hirving Lozano from San Diego FC, adding depth to an attacking lineup that already features Reus and Puig.
Although he has earned only 11 caps for Spain, Roberto’s career has been defined by playing alongside midfield icons Andrés Iniesta, Xavi Hernández and Sergio Busquets, a pedigree that he hopes will translate into success in Los Angeles.
