A Legacy in the Making
Asher Newton, a junior standout at Manhattan High School, announced his verbal commitment to the Kansas State University baseball program, continuing a family tradition that has already seen his older brother Sawyer head to Cloud County Community College. The pledge was made public after Newton represented Kansas at the 2026 Prep Baseball Future Games, a showcase that highlighted his rising profile on the national stage.
During his sophomore season, Newton helped the team to a 21‑5 record and a Class 6A regional championship, earning first‑team All‑Centennial League honors and second‑team recognition from the Kansas Association of Baseball Coaches. At the plate he batted .390 with a .519 on‑base percentage and a 1.190 OPS, leading the team in triples, home runs, RBI, runs scored and stolen bases, amassing six triples, two homers, 28 RBI and 16 steals.
His performance also earned him a spot among the elite prospects at the Future Games, where he caught the eye of college scouts before committing to K‑State. The commitment follows former Manhattan High player Kyler Horsman, who transferred to Kansas State after a record‑setting stint at Barton Community College, where he set a program record with 18 home runs.
Newton will be eligible to sign his national letter of intent in November 2027, a timeline that underscores the growing pipeline of talent between Manhattan High and the Wildcats. The connection involves Kansas State University, Manhattan High School, Cloud County Community College and Barton Community College, forming a collaborative network that has already produced multiple prospects for the program.
