A Fresh Commitment for Iowa Women's Basketball
The University of Iowa women's basketball program has secured a significant addition for the class of 2027 with the verbal commitment of Santana Sabus, a 5‑foot‑9 point guard who has been one of the most coveted recruits in the nation.
Sabus arrives after a junior season in which she averaged 23.7 points per game, shot 51 percent from the field and 35 percent from three‑point range, while also pulling down 10.1 rebounds, dishing out 3.8 assists and generating 3.9 steals per game, according to MaxPreps.
Her defensive versatility was highlighted by a block average of one per game, underscoring a well‑rounded skill set that aligns with the coaching staff's vision for a competitive future.
A Growing Class of Talent
Sabus will join a growing list of prospects, including forwards Sienna Williams and Nation Williams and center Khalia Hartwell, all of whom are still weighing their options, while Jada Seubert remains the sole committed recruit for the Hawkeyes.
The commitment comes as Iowa continues to strengthen its pipeline through both high school standouts and AAU standouts, with Sabus playing for Ralston Valley High School and the Hardwood Elite Adidas 3‑Stripes Select program.
Looking Ahead
Coaches see the addition of a Colorado native as a strategic move to expand the Hawkeyes' footprint in the western United States, a region that has historically supplied talent to the Big Ten. With a blend of scoring, playmaking and defensive tenacity, Sabus is expected to contribute immediately and help shape the program's trajectory toward future championships.
