Iowa Speedway is set to anchor the 2027 NASCAR Cup Series schedule with a July 4‑6 weekend event, marking the first time the series will race on Independence Day at the 1‑mile oval.
The decision follows three consecutive sell‑outs since the track entered the Cup calendar in 2024, and it will be supported by the O’Reilly Series and ARCA Menard’s Series, creating a multi‑division weekend.
Track upgrades and fan experience
Speedway officials have announced a comprehensive repaving program and a series of fan‑focused enhancements, including a revamped concourse, expanded suites and new hospitality spaces such as the Newton Club.
President Eric Peterson emphasized that the upgrades are designed to deepen fan engagement and reflect the track’s growing popularity, noting that the venue has become a marquee date for NASCAR supporters.
Governor Kim Reynolds highlighted the race’s role in showcasing Iowa’s commitment to clean‑fuel technologies, particularly the promotion of E15 ethanol blends, while also projecting significant economic benefits for central Iowa communities.
The shift to a July 4 weekend follows a broader trend in which traditional July 4 dates have moved to venues such as Daytona, Indianapolis, Road America, Chicago Street Course and Chicagoland Speedway in recent years.
Local leaders expect the event to generate tourism revenue, support small businesses and reinforce Iowa’s position as a hub for motorsports and sustainable energy initiatives.
