Gators poised for final season
The Florida Gators are gearing up for what promises to be a pivotal final season, entering the 2026‑27 campaign with a roster that blends returning starters and fresh talent.
At the heart of the recruiting push is Jason Gardner Jr., a 6‑foot‑1, 185‑pound four‑star guard who is already being courted by several power programs.
Gardner Jr. has already taken unofficial trips to Ohio State and is slated to visit the University of Florida, Auburn, Creighton and Stanford before October 2026, underscoring the competitive nature of his decision.
A second top recruit
Joining him in the 2027 class is Kamsi Awaka, a consensus top‑100 recruit rated No. 52 overall and the No. 8 center by 247 Sports, who lists Florida among his top five choices alongside Arizona, a connection strengthened by his brother Tobe Awaka’s own Big 12 pedigree.
The Gators’ immediate focus is on the 2026‑27 season, aiming to recover from a Round of 32 exit in the previous year and to build on a roster that includes Denzel Aberdeen, Thomas Haugh, Alex Condon, Rueben Chinyelu, Boogie Fland and Urban Klavzar.
Championship ambitions
Coach Thomas Haugh has voiced the team’s lofty ambition, stating that a national championship is the target, citing the group’s maturity and readiness to compete at the highest level.
The Gators open the season on November 2, 2026, in Tampa against rival Miami, a matchup that will set the tone for a schedule that includes a preseason No. 1 ranking in the polls.
