A sweep at home
The Gibraltar/Washington Island Vikings completed a doubleheader sweep of Sevastopol on Tuesday, posting a 2‑0 win in the opener and a 10‑2 triumph in the nightcap. The victories moved the team to third place in the Packerland Conference with an 11‑5 record.
Aaron Brey was the centerpiece of the first game, driving in both runs and delivering a complete‑game shutout. He yielded six hits, walked once and struck out eleven batters, preserving the clean sheet.
In the second contest the Vikings surged to a 6‑0 advantage after four innings before pulling away for a 10‑2 victory. The offense collected seven hits, including two singles each from Cam Munao and Mason Isaacson‑Krueger.
Pitching depth proved decisive. Hobbs Emerson worked five and one‑third innings before handing the ball to Miles Richmond, who closed out the final one and two‑thirds with a walk and a strikeout. Andrew Wiesner, who started on the mound for Sevastopol, surrendered five runs over five innings before the Vikings pulled away. Sevastopol used three pitchers, with Chase Haberli taking the loss.
The win leaves Gibraltar/Washington Island sitting third in the Packerland Conference with an 11‑5 record. The team will travel to Lena for a non‑conference matchup on Thursday, while the Pioneers (7‑9) host Gillett later that same night.
