The Baton Rouge community gathered this past Saturday for a unique showcase of basketball heritage, as six local high schools came together for the Who Run It Alumni Basketball Tournament.
A Legacy Rekindled on the Court
The event, staged at Scotlandville Magnet High School, featured former college standouts and professional players who once wore the colors of Scotlandville, Glen Oaks, Broadmoor, Catholic, Tara and Peabody.
Metro Councilman Anthony Kenney, who helped organize the tournament alongside Who Run It Basketball, emphasized the power of sport to unite residents and foster pride in the city’s athletic tradition.
Kenney noted that the gathering was about more than competition; it was a chance for alumni to reconnect, share stories and inspire the next generation of players who look up to these hometown heroes.
Baton Rouge has long been a breeding ground for athletic talent, and this tournament served as a reminder of the city’s deep‑rooted basketball culture, where school spirit and community engagement intertwine on and off the court.
As the final buzzer sounded, the smiles and handshakes echoed a broader mission: to keep the legacy of local basketball alive, to celebrate the achievements of past players and to pave the way for future stars who will carry the torch forward.
