Schedule Release Marks Start of a New Era
On August 6, 2024, the Sun Belt Conference officially rolled out the 2026‑27 men’s basketball schedule for James Madison University, setting the stage for a demanding 18‑game campaign that blends conference showdowns with non‑conference road trips.
The slate comprises twelve conference matchups, structured as a mix of home‑and‑away pairings against East Division rivals and six crossover games against teams from other divisions, ensuring a balanced but competitive schedule for the Dukes.
Among the most anticipated fixtures are three marquee home games: a January 2 showdown with Troy, a February 10 clash against Old Dominion, and a simultaneous February 10 battle with Appalachian State, each promising a lively atmosphere at the JMU Convocation Center.
The early portion of the season will test the team on the road, beginning with a December 19 contest at Southern Miss followed by a home game against Georgia State on December 16, providing a crucial early gauge of the Dukes’ form.
JMU’s recent dominance in the league adds extra intrigue; since joining the Sun Belt in 2022‑23, the program has posted a 27‑9 record in conference play, underscoring its ability to compete at a high level.
The schedule also features first‑year league meetings with Louisiana Tech on January 7 and Louisiana on January 9, marking a fresh chapter for those rivalries since the 2023‑24 season.
Looking ahead, the 2027 Sun Belt Men’s Basketball Championship will return to Pensacola, Florida, taking place from March 2 through March 8 at the Pensacola Bay Center, offering the Dukes a chance to contend for a conference title on home soil.
