Harrison County officials declared a local state of emergency, with early damage assessments reaching roughly $1.2 million, underscoring the scale of the loss.
Jessica Blackman, a committee member of the Lanesville Youth League, voiced deep concern that the destruction could jeopardize the league’s very existence.
In the wake of the disaster, volunteers, gravel suppliers, construction crews and private donors mobilized, delivering equipment and materials to salvage what could be saved.
Parents stepped up, contributing both time and personal funds to repair damaged sections, enabling the league’s teams to finish the summer season on adjacent fields.
Eight neighboring leagues also offered their own facilities, allowing Lanesville’s all‑star squads to continue playing despite the setback.
Lanesville Strong Benefit to Fuel Recovery
The upcoming Lanesville Strong benefit will feature live music, a wiffle‑ball tournament and a series of auctions aimed at raising the remaining funds needed for reconstruction.
Shirley’s Way, a nonprofit organization, has pledged to match every dollar raised, with a cap of $25,000, amplifying the community’s impact.
Organizers still require fencing, dugouts, batting cages, and additional dirt and brick dust to have the fields ready for the March opening day.
Jessica Brewer, who has been vocal about the crisis, emphasized that resilience means continuing to push forward even when setbacks loom.
Eleven‑year‑old Dashden Flathers reflected on the experience, noting that the outpouring of support has taught him the value of collective effort and personal growth.
