A New Defensive Piece for the Jaspers
Manhattan Men's Basketball has confirmed the addition of Josiah Sabino, a 6‑5 senior guard, to its 2026‑27 roster, marking a strategic move to bolster the team's interior defense and rebounding.
Sabino arrives after a collegiate stint that included time at Niagara, Garden City Community College and Jacksonville University, where he logged a career‑high 24 points and consistently contributed double‑digit rebounds.
Known for his defensive effort, he averaged 7.1 points per game at Niagara while shooting 45.3% from the floor and posting a 90.9% free‑throw percentage, a statistic that placed his former team among the nation's top three from the charity stripe.
His high school pedigree includes an All‑First Coast Player of the Year award and a First Team All‑State selection, reflecting a trajectory that began with a Times‑Union honor and a role as class historian in the National Honor Society.
Off the court, Sabino will pursue a master's degree in organizational leadership while continuing to develop his game for the Jaspers, a combination that aligns with the program's emphasis on academic and athletic growth.
Coach John Gallagher expressed confidence that Sabino's blend of skill and work ethic will enhance the team's competitiveness in the upcoming season, noting the guard's ability to protect the rim and control the boards.
