Trent Vogelhuber, a Central Ohio native, has returned to his hometown to serve as an assistant coach for the Columbus Blue Jackets, the NHL franchise that first drafted him in 2007.

His hockey story began on a local rink where, as a youngster, he mysteriously disappeared from the ice before later watching a game from the stands — a moment that sparked his lifelong passion for the sport.
Vogelhuber’s playing career was defined by perseverance; he excelled with the first Ohio AAA Blue Jackets team, earned a 211th‑overall selection in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, and overcame torn ACLs and shoulder injuries that kept him from an NHL debut.
After his playing days, he climbed the coaching ranks, leading the Cleveland Monsters to a Calder Cup in 2016 and eventually earning a promotion to head coach before the Blue Jackets brought him back to Columbus as a staff member.
His return marks a full‑circle moment, linking the franchise’s arrival in Columbus in 2000, his early inspirations, and the unwavering support of his parents, Dan and Dawn Vogelhuber, who encouraged discipline through daily push‑up challenges.
