Ukrainian Players Chart a Course in Prague
Two of Ukraine’s most promising junior players have taken a decisive step toward European senior competition. Forward Danylo Skorokhod and defenseman Semen Stasiuk have agreed to terms with Slavia Prague, the Czech capital club that has become a magnet for aspiring talent from across the border.
Skorokhod arrives after a breakout season with Kyiv’s ‘Sokil’, where he recorded four goals and fourteen assists in nineteen appearances and helped his team capture the Ukrainian championship. His offensive versatility and playmaking instincts are expected to add depth to Slavia’s forward lines.
Stasiuk, who spent the previous campaign with HC Poruba in Ostrava, contributed three goals and fourteen assists over forty‑three games for the U20 side. The youngster will now wear the Slavia U20 jersey, with the club’s sporting director hinting that a senior‑team call‑up could follow if his development trajectory remains steep.
The moves come at a time when the Maxa Liga’s promotion system is under close scrutiny. The league, which sits just below the Extraliga, offers a competitive environment where Ukrainian players can showcase their abilities on a regular basis, accelerating their adaptation to European ice‑hockey standards.
Beyond the duo, Slavia’s roster also benefits from the recent NHL camp experience of Oleksandr Levshin, who trained with the Vegas Golden Knights — the league’s reigning champions — and emerged impressed by the professionalism of the coaching staff and the camaraderie within the squad.
In a further boost, defenseman Oleksandr Petrenko has signed with Slavia’s B team for the 2024/25 season, securing a contract that runs through 2029. The agreement reflects the club’s long‑term vision of nurturing Ukrainian talent within its developmental structure.
