Brigham Young University made a notable move on Thursday morning by announcing the addition of Polish basketball center Jakub Urbaniak to its roster, a step aimed at shoring up the team’s frontcourt as it still holds two open scholarship spots.
Urbaniak, who has been plying his trade in Poland since 2022, brings a blend of size, scoring versatility and rebounding prowess, having logged extensive minutes for WKS Slask Wroclaw and earned caps with Poland’s senior national team in FIBA competitions.
A Player Who Fits the Cougars' Vision
During the most recent season with Slask Wroclaw, he averaged 9.4 points and 6.0 rebounds while shooting an efficient 55 percent from the field, and over the past year in the EuroCup he has posted 7.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
Coach Kevin Young highlighted that Urbaniak’s athleticism, skill set and competitive drive align perfectly with BYU’s style of play, noting that the center can stretch the floor with a 34 percent three‑point clip this season.
