A New Era for Minor League Baseball in Zebulon
Baseball is making its comeback at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, North Carolina, after a period of dormancy that left the historic venue quiet.
A free fan festival will be held on May 21, offering inflatable games, batting practice, and opportunities for fans to meet players and collect autographs.
The inaugural game of the newly formed Zebulon Devil Dogz, a member of the Coastal Plain League, is scheduled for May 22, when they will face the Virginia Beach Valor.
Opening Day Festivities and Community Engagement
The stadium, owned jointly by Wake County and the town of Zebulon, will host a ribbon‑cutting ceremony on May 21, with remarks from Mayor Jessica Daniels Harrison and Wake County Commissioner Chair Don Mial.
Tickets for the opening game are available through the team’s website, zebulondevildogz.com, and have already generated considerable interest among local fans.
Capitol Broadcasting Co., which also owns the Durham Bulls, the Holly Springs Salamanders and the news outlet WRAL, has been selected to lease and operate the stadium, planning a broader redevelopment of the surrounding land.
Local officials say the partnership promises to transform the area into a vibrant destination, building on the region’s long baseball tradition that includes the former Carolina Mudcats, who recently announced a move to Wilson with a new $70 million stadium.
Wake County Commissioner Susan Evans highlighted the experience of Capitol Broadcasting Co. in revitalizing facilities, underscoring the confidence placed in the new venture.
