A new face in the Pro Player Pathway
Makai Wells, a 17‑year‑old forward/winger from Washington, D.C., has signed a one‑year MLS NEXT Pro contract with New England Revolution II that runs through June 30, 2027.
Wells brings a prolific academy record, having tallied 27 goals and seven assists during his tenure at the Barca Residency Academy before joining the Revolution Academy, where he recorded a goal and an assist in his lone Under‑18 season.
His professional journey began on August 31, 2025, when he debuted for Revolution II in an MLS NEXT Pro match, appearing in 11 games and starting nine of them, eventually finding the back of the net against FC Cincinnati on March 15, 2026 in a 2‑1 victory.
Wells also earned caps with the United States Under‑17 side, making four appearances and completing a full 90 minutes against Northern Ireland on October 11, 2025.
Curt Onalfo, Senior Vice President of Soccer Operations for the Revolution, praised the teenager’s rapid ascent through the club’s Pro Player Pathway, noting his work ethic and professionalism.
Rob Becerra, Director of Youth Development, added that Wells’ talent, discipline and commitment to improvement have been evident throughout his academy years.
The signing marks the latest in a series of Academy graduates who have progressed to the professional ranks, joining alumni such as Peyton Miller, Malcolm Fry, Damario McIntosh, Eric Klein, Cristiano Oliveira and Javaun Mussenden, with 55 Academy players having made senior debuts since the team’s inaugural 2020 season.
