Ed Cooley enters his fourth season as head coach of Georgetown’s men’s basketball team with a clear vision for the upcoming 2026‑27 campaign. Speaking as part of the BIG EAST Summer Check‑In Series, he emphasized that teamwork, practice habits and limiting individualism will be the foundation of growth.
A culture of cohesion and competition
The roster reflects that philosophy. Returning players such as Caleb Williams, Kayvaun Mulready and Seal Diouf will be joined by a wave of transfers who bring a mix of experience and upside. Vyctorius Miller, a four‑star guard from Oklahoma State, is expected to add scoring depth, while Josiah Parker, the 2025‑26 AAC Freshman of the Year, brings rebounding and poise. Elmarko Jackson, a four‑star defender from Kansas, and Jaland Lowe, a high‑ceiling guard from Kentucky, are slated to anchor the backcourt. Freshmen Athan Olivier IV and Justin Caldwell will contribute on both ends, and Brazilian recruit Pedro Pastre adds size and hustle.
Physical conditioning will be a focal point, especially for Williams, whose scoring average jumped to 8.8 points per game last season. Coach Cooley believes that improving the team’s defensive efficiency and perimeter shooting will translate into more wins and a stronger home‑court advantage at Capital One Arena.
The non‑conference schedule is designed to test the squad early. Games against Maryland, Clemson, Texas in San Diego, UCLA and Saint Mary’s in San Diego are intended to sharpen the team and boost ticket sales, creating a lively atmosphere for fans.
Overall, the message from the Hilltop is one of ambition and cohesion. With a blend of returning talent, strategic additions and a demanding slate, Georgetown aims to compete at the highest level in the BIG EAST and beyond.
