A season of promise for the Cavaliers
Joel White, a junior at Carlinville High School, burst onto the scene last season with 1,699 rushing yards and 30 touchdowns on 264 carries, averaging nearly 170 yards per game and 6.4 yards per carry. His performance set a high bar for the upcoming year and has generated excitement among teammates and fans alike.
Coach Chad Easterday, who has guided the program to the postseason in all 17 of his qualifying seasons, sees White’s physical growth and increased confidence as key ingredients for a team that lost 12 seniors from the previous roster. The Cavaliers have a storied tradition of playoff appearances, having not missed the field since 2006.
Building on a record‑breaking foundation
Returning receiver Cameron Cooper, who was third on the team with 17 catches for 168 yards and two touchdowns last year, will again be a focal point of the offense. Alongside him, the coaching staff hopes to integrate younger players while relying on the experience of those who survived the senior exodus, including quarterback Kip Reels and the departed but memorable Triston Thompson, Tate Duckels and Noah Convery.
Early‑season games have already shown White adapting quickly to the heightened competition, as evidenced by his 230‑yard, four‑touchdown effort against Litchfield and a 194‑yard outing versus Greenville. Those performances underscore his natural ability to rise to the occasion, a trait that helped him transition from a freshman who struggled initially to a confident leader.
With a 10th game scheduled and White slated to start from the opening snap, the Cavaliers are positioned to challenge for another postseason berth. Easterday emphasizes that the team’s depth, community support, and the continuity of a strong coaching staff will be crucial as they navigate the rigors of a demanding schedule.
