Wyatt Wilber, a 15‑year‑old linebacker from Maryville High School, has become one of the most talked‑about prospects in Tennessee's 2026 recruiting class. In his junior season he amassed 98 tackles, seven tackles for loss, a sack, an interception and a fumble recovery, numbers that have drawn praise from coaches and analysts alike.
After a campus visit that sealed his decision, Wilber announced his commitment to the University of Minnesota on June 14, passing over a list that included East Tennessee State, Jacksonville State, Marshall, Memphis, Mississippi State and UT Martin. The choice reflects both his desire for a strong football environment and a personal connection to the colder climate of the Twin Cities.
Maryville coach Kenny Cobble describes Wilber as a “silent leader” whose intelligence, physicality and blend of size and speed set him apart. “He leads by example, focusing on improvement rather than words,” Cobble said, highlighting the player’s rapid physical development and explosive speed.
Wilber will join two other Maryville standouts — quarterback Will Jones and linebacker JP Peace — in the 2026 Elite Eight, a testament to the school’s rising football pedigree. He hopes his journey will inspire younger teammates to chase similar dreams.
