Preseason rankings highlight title contenders and key returning players

Louisville Area Boys Soccer Preview

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association has released its preseason Top 25 for boys soccer, positioning St. Xavier as the team to beat as the new season looms. The poll places the Catholic school at No. 1, reflecting its recent championship pedigree and the depth of talent returning to the pitch.

St. Xavier arrives with nine starters from its 2025 title‑winning side, among them three seniors who earned first‑team All‑State honors. Striker Trey White, who netted 14 goals last year, will lead a potent attack, while midfielder Tag Haunert and goalkeeper T.C. Kron add experience and stability.

Just behind them, Trinity holds the No. 2 spot after a 19‑2‑1 campaign that saw its defense concede only eight goals in 22 matches. The Rocks bring back All‑State defenders Carson Sonne and Griffin Rose, alongside midfielders Cooper Tyler, Tanner Travis and Luke Buckley, who were all recognized for their performances.

Butler, ranked No. 19, aims to secure a third consecutive Sixth Region championship. Senior midfielders Joseph Ushindi and Joseph Iranyunva will anchor the team’s creative engine, hoping to translate regional success into a deeper state run.

Other programs also promise intrigue. Bullitt East returns senior forward Landon King, who recorded 20 goals and 12 assists, and junior keeper Mason Weber, while Christian Academy boasts a senior class featuring midfielders Noah Torrens and Luke Derhake, plus goalkeeper Maverick Urhig, who posted seven shutouts.

South Oldham, despite losing 11 seniors, retains sophomore Judah Walker and junior goalkeeper Ethan Briscoe, both of whom contributed significantly in the previous season. The broader Top 25 also includes traditional powerhouses such as Owensboro Henry Clay, Bryan Station, and Lexington Catholic, rounding out a competitive field.
