A historic run
The West Ouachita Chiefs have cemented a remarkable streak, completing four consecutive winning seasons in 2025, a milestone that has reshaped expectations for the program and signaled sustained growth.
Central to that momentum are recent facility upgrades, including a brand‑new soccer and track field house and refurbished baseball and softball diamonds, all overseen by school board representative Mike Batey.
With the team now competing in Division II nonselect, the schedule has been reshaped to face District 2‑4A rivals such as Neville, Wossman, Franklin Parish and Tioga, promising tougher tests and greater exposure.
Key contributors
Senior All‑District lineman Owen Struben, versatile playmaker Deuce Price, and a revamped offensive line anchored by Andrew Osbon form the backbone of the squad, while junior quarterback Junior Trigger Booth leads the attack alongside sophomores Abram Bennett and Landon Hatton.
Price, who amassed over 1,100 all‑purpose yards last season, recently received his first Division I offer from Grambling, underscoring his rising profile.
Coaching philosophy and community support
Coach Mike Rainwater stresses that hard work and sacrifice are the only paths to greatness, a mantra that has resonated throughout the locker room and the broader community.
Senior Josiah Toston echoes the sentiment, expressing confidence that the squad is ready to tackle the 2026 season’s challenges and finally break past the first‑round barrier that has haunted the program.
Looking ahead
The Chiefs aim to improve on last year’s 6‑5 record, avoid an opening‑round exit and build on the momentum generated by their upgraded facilities and supportive fan base as they prepare for a demanding district slate.
