Syracuse Linebackers Climb Bruce Feldman’s Freaks List Amid Rising Athletic Profiles

Chris D’Appolonia and Antoine Deslauriers crack the top 50, underscoring the program’s growing physical prowess

The newest edition of Bruce Feldman’s Freaks List, a widely followed ranking of college football players who display extraordinary athleticism and strength, has placed two Syracuse linebackers in its top tier. The recognition spotlights the program’s recent emphasis on developing physically imposing talent.

Standout Performers on the List

Chris D’Appolonia, a transfer from Toledo, re‑entered the rankings at No. 45. The senior’s blend of size, speed, and raw power is reflected in a 37‑inch vertical leap, a top sprint of 21.67 miles per hour, and impressive strength numbers that include a 375‑pound bench press, a 565‑pound squat and a 325‑pound clean.

Antoine Deslauriers, a true freshman, broke new ground by becoming the first rookie in program history to lead the team in tackles. His offseason work yielded a 390‑pound bench press, a squat exceeding 500 pounds and a vertical leap just over 34 inches, while his GPS‑recorded top speed reached 23 miles per hour.

Both players contributed significantly in the previous season, with D’Appolonia posting 68 tackles and 3.5 sacks while earning All‑MAC honors, and Deslauriers adding 60 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two pass breakups and two forced fumbles. Their performances illustrate a broader trend of physical development within the Syracuse defense.

Looking ahead, Syracuse is slated to open its campaign on September 5, launching a six‑game stretch at the iconic Loud House. The early schedule will provide further opportunities for the duo to showcase the athleticism that earned them national attention.
