Olney Cropdusters Celebrate First Cal Ripken Sr. League Championship
The Olney Cropdusters clinched their maiden Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League title on Tuesday, downing the Bethesda Big Train 11-3 in the series finale. The victory capped a three‑game stretch in which the Dusters displayed a blend of power and patience, finishing the championship series with an 11‑3 margin.
Coach Adam Leader, who guided the Dusters throughout the tournament, highlighted Bethesda’s tenacity, noting that the Big Train presented a persistent challenge that pushed Olney to its limits. “They never made it easy for us,” Leader said, “and that’s exactly the competition we were after.”
Olney native Brian Scott emerged as the series’ Most Outstanding Player after posting a .500 average, driving in four runs while stealing a base and drawing two walks across the three games. His 5‑for‑10 performance underscored the depth of talent on the Dusters roster.
The championship marks a milestone for the franchise, signaling that the team has finally reached the competitive level it has long pursued. Club officials say the win will serve as a foundation for future development and community engagement in the Olney area.
