The Brantford Bulldogs have announced the addition of Cullen McCrate, a 2007‑born defenseman, to their roster via an Ontario Hockey League Scholarship and Development Agreement.
McCrate arrives after a trade from the Owen Sound Attack, where he had been selected in the seventh round of the 2025 draft by the Boston Bruins and had committed to playing at Michigan State University.
During the 2023‑24 16U season he recorded 16 goals and 40 assists, totaling 56 points in 57 games, and later earned a spot with the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL before moving to the Fargo Force, where he posted 10 goals and 20 assists in the 2025‑26 campaign.
His performance earned him a place on Team USA at the 2024 Hlinka‑Gretzky tournament, and his plus‑19 rating highlighted a strong defensive presence.
A Fit for the Bulldogs' Vision
The organization emphasizes development and community leadership, traits that McCrate has consistently demonstrated on and off the ice. General manager Jordan Smith said the young blueliner’s physical style, offensive instincts and high‑character demeanor align perfectly with the club’s rebuilding culture.
Fans can expect to see a more aggressive blue line and a player who brings both grit and playmaking ability to the lineup. With his NHL draft pedigree and proven leadership, McCrate is poised to contribute immediately as the Bulldogs aim to return to playoff contention.
