Omer Hamama Joins Eastern Kentucky Basketball Program for 2026‑27 Season

The Israeli guard brings international experience to the Colonels after a stint at Kent State

Omer Hamama, a 6‑foot‑2 guard from Israel, is set to join Eastern Kentucky University’s men’s basketball team for the 2026‑27 season after completing his transfer from Kent State University.

A Global Journey

Born in Reshon LeZion and raised in Israel, Hamama began his professional career in the Winners League with Hapoel Afula before moving to the National League side Migdal HaEmek, where he honed his playmaking skills against senior competition.

During his lone season at Kent State, he appeared in 23 games, averaging 1.8 points and 1.3 assists per contest, and posted a season‑high eight points against his new teammates on November 18, 2025, shooting 4‑of‑8 from the field in just 13 minutes.

A Memorable Debut Against the Colonels

In that game he also contributed 10 assists in a matchup versus Cornell, showcasing his ability to create opportunities for others while delivering a spark on the scoreboard.

Coach A.W. Hamilton expressed enthusiasm about the addition, noting that Hamama’s international experience and proven performances against EKU make him a valuable asset as the program looks to deepen its roster.

The coaching staff believes his background in high‑pressure environments will complement the existing talent and help the Colonels compete more aggressively in the upcoming season.
