Tay Lockett, a three‑star safety from Conway High School, chose to join the Arkansas Razorbacks in 2023, defying expectations that had placed him elsewhere. The 247Sports Composite had ranked him No. 98 among safeties, but his decision was driven by the program’s vision and the chance to contribute early.
Secondary coach Deron Wilson has already spoken of Lockett’s football IQ, noting that the freshman’s ability to read the game and make decisive plays could allow him to step onto the defensive unit right away.
During fall camp, Lockett has been working with the second‑team defense alongside safety Kyeaure Magloire, and he has already recorded interceptions and solid coverage, drawing praise for his instinctive positioning.
Defensive coordinator Ron Roberts highlighted the rookie’s mental sharpness, placing him and Danny Beale III at the top of the freshman list for playing time, a testament to the coaching staff’s confidence in their potential.
