The Alaska Nanooks Department of Athletics has unveiled the Class of 2026 for the Nanook Hall of Fame, a distinguished group that will be celebrated on October 2, 2026, at Pike’s Lodge in Fairbanks. The ceremony will bring together former student‑athletes, coaches, and community members to honor contributions that have shaped the university’s sports heritage.
A Legacy of Excellence
Jordan Hendry, a standout forward who led the Nanooks from 2002 to 2006, is being recognized for his role in capturing four Alaska Airlines Governor’s Cup titles and earning the Doug Desourcie Top Rookie award in 2003. His 112 games played produced 36 points, and he later pursued a professional career in the NHL, winning a Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010.
Sagen Maddalena, who competed in rifle sports from 2014 to 2018, enters the Hall for amassing 12 All‑American honors and four appearances at the NCAA Rifle Championships. A two‑time Alaska Rifle Scholar‑Athlete of the Year, she has added Olympic medals to her résumé, finishing fifth in the 50‑meter three‑position event at the 2020 Tokyo Games and securing a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Colton Parayko, a defenseman who served as team captain in his final season, is celebrated for earning WCHA Defensive Player of the Year twice and for being named to the All‑Rookie Team in 2015‑16. He later contributed to the St. Louis Blues’ Stanley Cup championship in 2019.
The 1972‑73 Men’s Basketball Team, the first championship squad in University of Alaska Fairbanks history, is also part of this year’s inductees. The team captured the NAIA District 1 title by defeating Central Washington in a three‑game series, with Mike Lessley leading the scoring at 22 points and Mark Beauchamp delivering clutch free throws in the final moments.
Since its establishment in 2008, the Nanook Hall of Fame has highlighted individuals whose athletic excellence is matched by their service to the Fairbanks community. The upcoming ceremony will underscore the enduring impact of these inductees on future generations of student‑athletes.
Looking Ahead
The induction weekend will feature a series of events, including a reception at Pike’s Lodge, a panel discussion with alumni, and opportunities for fans to engage with the honorees. Organizers hope the celebration will inspire continued support for UAF athletics and reinforce the spirit of community involvement that defines the Nanook identity.
