A Fast Start in Holuba Hall
The fourth installment of Penn State’s fall camp unfolded in Holuba Hall, where the program’s most explosive athletes put their speed to the test. Clocked at more than 23 miles per hour, wide receiver Brett Eskildsen and cornerback Audavion Collins topped the charts, earning spots on The Athletic’s annual “Freak’s List.” Their blistering pace set the tone for a session that blended raw athleticism with refined technique.
Eskildsen’s combination of raw velocity and sure hands left a lasting impression. Coaches praised his ability to stretch defenses downfield, noting that his speed not only opened vertical routes but also created seams for underneath plays. “When you can run that fast, you force everyone else to adjust,” said offensive coordinator Matt Campbell, who watched the receiver haul in contested catches while sprinting across the field.
Collins, meanwhile, proved equally disruptive on the defensive side of the ball. His knack for reading passing lanes translated into multiple pass breakups, while his reliability on special teams earned him a role on kickoff returns. In the previous season he recorded 47 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, a fumble recovery and three pass breakups, underscoring his all‑purpose impact.
The workout also spotlighted other emerging talents. Quarterbacks Rocco Becht and Alex Manske displayed poise under pressure, while running back Quinton Martin showed flashes of breakaway speed. Walk‑on Ethan Black impressed observers with his own sprinting ability, a detail Eskildsen highlighted when speculating that Black could outrun him over longer distances.
Despite some growing pains among new starters such as Brock Riker and Amarion Jackson, the core group of standouts remained dominant. Their performances have already begun to shape expectations for the upcoming season opener against Marshall on September 5 at Beaver Stadium.
