Opening Victory
Sweetwater Valley Little League defeated San Ramon Valley Little League 16‑4 in the opening game of the West Region tournament, showcasing a blend of experience and depth that left little doubt about their intentions.
Noah Kirk took the mound and delivered a solid outing, striking out six batters over five innings while allowing only two early runs. At the plate, he went 2 for 3 with four RBIs, including a key double off the centerfield wall.
The offensive onslaught was anchored by Grant Mielke, whose home run marked the tournament’s first and helped the team surge to a 10‑2 lead in the fourth inning. Isaac Ramirez added a triple, reached base four times and scored twice, while Tempe Tran doubled twice and contributed three RBIs. Asher Giglio also doubled twice, walked once and crossed the plate three runs.
Relief pitcher Jesus Cuandra came in during the sixth inning, securing three outs despite surrendering two runs and two hits, preserving the lead.
Manager Steve Winnick highlighted the mental edge his squad held, noting that familiarity with the stadium and playing surface gave them a distinct advantage heading into the next matchups.
The team is slated to face Hawaii on Tuesday at 6 p.m., then will contest the West Region championship on Friday at the same time, a schedule that underscores the importance of continued focus and preparation.
